Happy ending.

This has been another kinda rough week for me. I haven't been sleeping much and as a result, the things at work that annoy me slightly have almost sent me into mouthing-off territory, where I don't need to be.

For example today, a man who doesn't work in the office (but let's just say he has significant power over me) commented that I had forgotten to make the tea for everyone. What he meant was, "You are a woman, you make the tea". Which I would actually appreciate more than the backhanded remark he used. And this isn't the first time he's made a comment like that. Now everyone who knows me will tell you that I am normally quite accommodating in this regard and I will even show up early to make tea or go buy treats so people will enjoy themselves. But I do it because I like to, not because I'm told to. It's  not even my job at all.

Anywho, I somehow strangled my exhaustion-fueled rage into low-grade contrition and said "I didn't forget to do anything." which is about 16 times better than what I wanted to say (or scream). We won't type that here.

Oh no he didn't.

Thank God the evening was so much better than the day.

ISLAM
Tonight our Meaningful Prayer class started and it was straight-up amazing. I need to get rest before tomorrow's 8-hour session so I will make this quick but it was really one of the best, most concise, and most heart-wrenching explanations of Surat al-Fatihah (the first chapter of the Quran and the 7-line opening of every prayer) that I have ever heard. WOW.

One tidbit:
Allah told us through Mohamed (peace and blessings be upon him) that He divided the prayer (referring to al-Fatihah because it's so essential it might as well BE the prayer) into two equal halves, one for Him and one for His slave (me/us). When you break down the meaning and divide the surah into the verses for Him (praising Him, glorifying Him etc) and for us (asking for guidance etc) it is EXACTLY down the middle. 63 letters in each section.

I started typing these in bullet points but when the first one got so long I decided to cut it short. Please know that I am not doing the three-hour session we had any justice at all with this summary. It was wonderful and if I had to pay $85 just for that without attending the rest of the weekend class, I would do it. Allahu akbar. Allah is greater.

Don't worry though, I am going to the rest of the class and I will share some notes with you!

EXERCISE
It rained pretty much all day, I spent my lunch hour at Sam's Club (ugh!), and I just got home at 10:00 and had to eat dinner/write this blog thingy, so I will just do those "Stretch Out Stress" in-bed exercises from a while back and call it a night. You'll just have to take my word on this one.

Health Tip of The Day: A 24-ounce Jamba Juice Original Aloha Pineapple Smoothie has as much sugar as three Snickers bars. And it's probably like $6. I thought we were over the smoothie thing but it's still going strong in colleges especially. Bottom line: Don't fool yourself into thinking that all things fruit are a good choice. You don't have to count calories, but try to choose something with a good balance of sugar and protein and if it has some veg in it like spinach, all the better. Make it yourself at home and you're saving time, money, and a styrofoam cup as well!

  1. Those smoothies are quite possibly the worst "health food" out there! I still can't believe that people buy those things.

The caption under Mrs. Obama's picture doesn't have the right flavor. Or I guess that should be flava!
